Live Friday Nights: Gov’t Mule – Don’t Step On The Grass, Sam

Warren Haynes and company have been one of the most jammingest best for the last 20+ years and continue to lead the jam band community in pure rockness today.

When my wife and I first got together in 2007, The Mule came around two months later and she bought us tickets to see them at the Madison Theater in Covington, KY. It wasn’t just a great concert, it was a superb concert, because opening for them was Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, another band her and I love.

That is still one of the greatest concerts I’ve ever seen. And of course when I hear either them or Grace Potter, I always think of my wife.

A side note. At that time I was the “manager” for my buddy’s jam band. The night of the show was either right on Halloween or the weekend before it. The bass player was having a Halloween party at his house. After the show, my wife and I went to his place and partied pretty good into the wee hours of the morning with the rest of the band and friends. A lot of drinking and drugs were done. It was a great time.

When we left, we drove across town (probably the best idea to have while trashed) to eat at Chili Time in St. Bernard, which is open almost 24 hours. While there, Jen snapped two pictures of me in my “costume.”
